As 2026 planning estimates in CAD, relining a 15 to 25 m residential sewer lateral with a full-length CIPP liner typically quotes $9,000 to $28,000, or about $500 to $1,200 per metre ($150 to $365 per foot) for the liner, before setup, cleaning and connections are added. A single sectional liner over one defect is about $2,500 to $6,500. Access, cleaning and connections move a quote most.
- Full-length liner, 15 to 25 m lateral: $9,000 to $28,000 as a 2026 planning range.
- Liner and resin installed: about $500 to $1,200 per metre, or $150 to $365 per foot.
- Setup $500 to $2,000; cleaning and preparation $400 to $2,500; each reopened connection $300 to $1,200.
- No usable cleanout adds an access pit ($1,500 to $4,500 plus restoration) or a new cleanout ($600 to $2,500).
- These ranges match the lining cost pages on SewerQuotes.com, SewerReplacement.ca and TrenchlessSewerRepair.ca.
01 /How much does sewer relining cost in 2026?
The ranges below are planning estimates for residential work in Canada. They are the same ranges published on the lining and repair cost pages of sister sites SewerQuotes.com, SewerReplacement.ca and TrenchlessSewerRepair.ca, so the same job should not look cheaper on one HAUSE site than another. They are built from typical quoted ranges, not from any one contractor’s price list.
| Work | Typical quoted range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera inspection with recorded video and locate | $250–$600 | The diagnosis every lining price should rest on |
| Full-length CIPP liner, 15–25 m lateral | $9,000–$28,000 | Setup, cleaning, liner and connections together |
| Liner and resin installed, per metre | $500–$1,200 ($150–$365 per foot) | After setup; varies with diameter, thickness and system |
| Sectional (spot) liner, first section | $2,500–$6,500 | One defect on otherwise sound pipe |
| Each extra sectional liner, same visit | $1,500–$3,500 | More defects on the same line |
| Pipe bursting, 15–25 m lateral (for comparison) | $10,000–$30,000 | New pipe on the old path |
| Open-cut replacement, 15–25 m lateral (for comparison) | $12,000–$35,000+ | New pipe on new grade, plus restoration |
02 /What are the line items in a relining quote?
A full-length lining quote is built from parts. Knowing them lets you see why two contractors’ totals differ, and spot what one of them left out.
| Line item | Range | What moves it |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-lining camera | $0–$400 | Sometimes credited if the same company did the inspection |
| Mobilisation and setup | $500–$2,000 | Equipment, site protection, flow control |
| Cleaning and preparation | $400–$2,500 | Root mass, scale, grease, number of passes |
| Liner and resin, installed | $500–$1,200 per metre | Diameter, design thickness, resin and cure method |
| Reinstating each branch connection | $300–$1,200 | Number and type of connections; seals if used |
| Access pit where no cleanout exists | $1,500–$4,500 plus restoration | Depth and surface |
| New exterior cleanout | $600–$2,500 | Often installed in the same pit |
| Permit | $100–$500 | Whether one is needed depends on the municipality |
Two items deserve a close look. Cleaning is the most variable, because a clay line with root masses at every joint or a heavily tuberculated cast iron drain can take several passes; see cleaning and descaling before lining. Reinstatement is priced per connection, so count the branches on the pre-lining video and check the quote covers all of them; see reinstating connections after lining.
03 /What does a typical relining job add up to?
Two illustrative residential examples, built only from the line-item ranges above.
| Example | Calculation | Planning range |
|---|---|---|
| 18 m clay lateral, basement cleanout, one branch connection | $500–$2,000 setup + 18 m × $500–$1,200 + $400–$2,500 cleaning + $300–$1,200 connection | $10,200–$27,300 |
| 12 m cast iron drain, no connections, new exterior cleanout needed | $500–$2,000 setup + 12 m × $500–$1,200 + $400–$2,500 descaling + $600–$2,500 cleanout | $7,500–$21,400 |
The first example sits inside the $9,000 to $28,000 range for a 15 to 25 m line, and matches the worked example on TrenchlessSewerRepair.ca. The second is shorter, so it lands lower, but the cleanout and the descaling take a larger share. In both, the liner is the largest single line, about two thirds to nine tenths of the total; the rest is getting to the pipe, preparing it and finishing it, and that share grows as the run gets shorter.
04 /What drives a relining price up or down?
- Length: tube, resin and install time scale with the metres between access points.
- Diameter and design thickness: a 150 mm line or a fully deteriorated design needs more material than a 100 mm partially deteriorated one; the Liner Thickness Explorer shows what drives thickness.
- Resin and cure system: tube type, resin and cure method differ in material and equipment cost; see CIPP resins and CIPP curing methods.
- Pipe condition: roots, scale, offsets and grease mean more cleaning passes.
- Access: a usable cleanout avoids a pit; a missing one adds cost and a small dig.
- Bends and transitions: can call for a different system or a second liner.
- Connections: each branch reopened, and sealed if specified.
- Winter: frozen ground raises the cost of any pit, and cold pipe can lengthen heat or ambient cures.
The Iowa SUDAS manual makes a point that applies at house scale too: mobilisation is one of the largest costs in lining, so lining the whole problem length in one visit is cheaper per metre than returning for pieces.
05 /What is usually not included?
- Clearing an active blockage before the scheduled work.
- Extra cleaning passes beyond those quoted, if the pipe is worse than the video showed.
- Connections beyond a stated number.
- Repairs found only after cleaning, such as a hole opened in corroded cast iron.
- Digs for a belly, collapse or blocking offset; a liner cannot fix those.
- Restoration beyond backfill at any pit.
- Work on the municipal side of the property line.
- The final video as a file, and the cure record, unless requested.
Ask for missing items to be added as lines, and give every contractor the same footage. The Can My Sewer Be Relined? screen lists the preparation and liner points your quote should cover.
06 /Is relining cheaper than replacement?
Often, once the whole job is counted. The pipe work ranges overlap: $9,000 to $28,000 for a liner against $12,000 to $35,000 or more for open-cut replacement of a 15 to 25 m lateral. The gap opens when the trench would cross a driveway, a patio, mature trees or a finished basement floor, where restoration can cost as much as the pipe. On a short, shallow run under open lawn, a dig can be the cheaper option and gives new pipe on new grade. The full comparison is in is sewer relining worth it.
For a line that needs one dig at a belly or collapse and a liner elsewhere, both costs apply; planning that split is covered on sister site TrenchlessSewerRepair.ca. How Canadian cities share the cost of the line, city side versus private side, is on the Across Canada page. When you have quotes, send them to the HAUSE Sewer desk for an independent read.
FAQQuestions people ask
How much does sewer relining cost per metre in Canada?
As a 2026 planning estimate, about $500 to $1,200 per metre for the liner and resin installed, before setup, cleaning and connections are added.
What does a sewer liner cost per foot?
Roughly $150 to $365 per foot for the liner installed, as a 2026 planning range in CAD, plus setup, cleaning and each reopened connection.
How much is a single spot liner?
About $2,500 to $6,500 for the first sectional liner and $1,500 to $3,500 for each extra one on the same visit, as 2026 planning estimates.
Why did my relining quote include an access pit?
A liner needs a way in. Without a usable cleanout, a small pit ($1,500 to $4,500 plus restoration) or a new cleanout ($600 to $2,500) is part of the job.
Does the city pay for relining my sewer?
Only for the part it owns, where it owns part, and ownership varies by city. Calgary’s open data, for example, puts the main-to-property-line section with the City and the rest with the homeowner.
